The new version is a cloud/subscription, which I do not like, so I'm going to try this package. Can anyone give me a rough idea about the transition process - difficulty, what to look out for, etc.?

OpenSCAD is popular in the 3D printing community, but it's a tool for programming-minded people - which I'm not. It can only export to .CSG (an open but non-standard file format) and .STL.

So, an instance of the Block is only a reference to it's source Block, essentially a pointer as in programming. But, yes, the Clone is probably the closest in FreeCAD land.
