The Arthur L. Garford House, also known as the Hickories was built for Elyria industrialist, Arthur L. Garford. Arthur was involved in the manufacturing of items from bicycle seat to car and truck to steel. He also became involved in politics being a delegate to three political Republican conventions. The house was built in 1895. The rustic Shingle styled house was designed by Arthur N Oviatt. Since 1975 the house has served as the headquarters for the Lorain County Historical Society. The Society also operates the Hickories Museum in the home.
