ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Three months after Hurricane Helene devastated portions of western North Carolina and the Appalachians, the FOX Forecast Center is now tracking the potential for several inches of rain in the same hard-hit areas over the weekend.

Businesses in Western North Carolina took a hit after Helene hit on Sept. 27, causing unemployment to skyrocket.

New York state will fine fossil fuel companies a total of $75 billion over the next 25 years to pay for damage caused to the climate under a bill Governor Kathy Hochul signed into law on Thursday. The law is intended to shift some of the recovery and adaptation costs of climate change from individual taxpayers to oil, gas and coal companies that the law says are liable.

Western North Carolina is set to receive a good amount of rainfall on Friday night into Saturday morning and then again on Saturday night into Sunday morning.
