Alliance Trust will merge with smaller investment trust rival Witan in a seismic deal that will give the newly formed entity net assets of around £5bn, making it one of the UK’s biggest.

The index provider FTSE Russell confirmed that Warhammer owner Games Workshop, Alliance Witan and St. James's Place will join the U.K.'s FTSE 100 bluechip index in the quarterly reshuffle.
