Reports that welds on Navy submarines and aircraft carriers being built at Newport News Shipbuilding in Virginia may have been purposely faulty have prompted a congressional investigation.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Newport News Shipbuilding says it’s discovered that faulty welds may have knowingly been made to submarines and aircraft carriers under construction at the shipyard.

THE PENTAGON – The House Armed Services Committee is investigating substandard welding on submarines and aircraft carriers at Newport News Shipbuilding, the committee announced on Friday.
