A huge part of the M4, including one of the Severn Bridges, has been closed by police as a major incident unfolds. Drivers have been stopped from crossing the M48 Prince of Wales bridge for the foreseeable.

M4 Westbound closed, queueing traffic due to police incident from J21 M48 to J23 M48. Congestion to all the way back to J19 (Bristol), and the M5 is very slow back to J17 (Cribbs Causeway) as drivers seek an alternative route.

The bridge was closed in both directions for a time and now the westbound carriageway remains shut with congestion stretching as far back as Bristol
