I previously owned a Robalo R200 a few years ago and know that Robalos are very good boats. I fished the GOM yesterday out of Panama City and can give you some of my observations.

The deciding factor for me is I need it to fit in a garage with a standard 7' high door. The Robalo 160 will fit with the folding windshield option. The Scout 175 will not. I am down to the Robalo 160 or Montauk 150. My whaler Dauntless 16' fits under the standard door.

2003年1月13日 · I than have another gimbal mount which has a "triple" rod holder mounted to the gimbal mount. This rod holder is made by a company called Vector. I believe Big Jon makes a similar one. The base is about 18 inches across and has three tube-style rod holders spread evenly. Very strong. Rod holders can easily be adjusted "both" directions.

Some people recommend drilling the hole with the drill in reverse. Prevents any damage to the gelcoat. my EW318 came with6 factory installed rod holders in the cockpit. I added 6 more. 2 in each midship gunnel directed 90 outward for bottom and drift fishing, and 2 more in the bow (anchor locker) as mentioned above.

I continued to use them, until one day I was watching the clamp on rod holder as a striper pulled on my surf rod.....What I found out was that it's leverage working against you. Only the very best have any chance of standing up to a big fishing using heavy drags.....
