The Jarvie Program, formally known as the “James N. Jarvie Commonweal Service,” is an elder-care program that provides social work services and in many cases financial support to elderly individuals who meet certain qualifications that were defined by James N. Jarvie, a wealthy lifelong Presbyterian who endowed the program over 90 years ago.
About James N. Jarvie - The Jarvie Program
James Newbegin Jarvie (1835-1929) was born in Manchester, England, and came to the U.S. with his family at the age of two. As a young man, Mr. Jarvie became interested in the coffee business, joining—and eventually becoming partner in—a New York-based coffee and sugar commodities firm.

Organizations that Received Grants in 2023 - The Jarvie Program
At its fall 2023 meeting, the Jarvie Commonweal Service Committee approved grants totaling $330,000 to eight organizations that provide care to the elderly in the New York City area. The organizations that received grant funding are listed below.
