2017年10月22日 · I think it depends entirely on the larger context. If you're sitting behind the wheel of a car, it would be very natural to say "This is the first time", but saying "It is the first time" sounds weird. "It" is more general and doesn't necessarily refer to anything present. –

I realise at least some of the claimed 115,000 instances of as it was the first time will be for the sense as = since, but a good proportion will match the current context. And there are only 5 instances of as it was at the first time. –

2015年3月4日 · Why do we use the present perfect with This is the first time, but the present simple/continuous with This is the last time, i.e. This is the first time I have done it. vs. This is the last time I do/am doing it. In both sentences, I see a connection from past to present and using the present perfect makes sense.
