In the basement next to a cleanout cap is a mason jar full of copper sulfate with a notecard glued to it. The notecard has the dates the coppersulfate was added. If the copper sulfate trick is not an intelligent option, I may have to consider having the tree taken down entirely, but i wanted to ask people FAR more knowledgeable than i am before making any commitments.

Also, the plumbers around here wrap the end of the plastic PVC sewer pipes where they enter the clay sewer mains with copper wire. They say it keeps the roots away.
