I believe it’s a brown rot fungus that grows on hardwoods and conifers (related to Fomitopsis). This is not an edible mushroom nor have I heard of it having any specific medicinal benefit..Check out the wild color change as pigments in the mushroom flesh are deprotonated by the basic solution.
